Our 36 hour adventure in the Monterey Peninsula!
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! We had a California trip on the books, but realized we had two wide-open days before it started—no school, no work, totally free. So what did we do? Rearranged our flights and squeezed in one of our all-time favorite spots: the Monterey Peninsula! Think: Monterey, Pebble Beach, and Carmel—three of the dreamiest coastal towns in California.
We made the most of it with a whirlwind of sightseeing, great food, cute shops, and some much-needed downtime. Keep scrolling for all the details you’ll need to plan your own mini escape to this stunning slice of the California coast.
Where we stayed…
Traveling as a family of five means two beds just won’t cut it—and booking two hotel rooms? That adds up fast. So instead, we found the cutest cabin that had exactly what we needed: two queen beds, a cozy loft, and the dreamiest patio with a firepit.
The grounds were absolutely beautiful—peaceful, spacious, and full of charm. Honestly, if we had more time, we would’ve stayed even longer. The property has a little something for everyone: cabins, RV spots, luxury tents, and campsites. Total hidden gem!

Restaurants…
For our first night, we had dinner at The Restaurant at Mission Ranch in Carmel-by-the-Sea—and wow, what a setting!
Picture this: sheep grazing in an open meadow, a view of the Pacific Ocean in the distance, and the rugged beauty of Point Lobos State Preserve just beyond. It felt like something out of a movie. The atmosphere was peaceful, charming, and absolutely unforgettable.

On our last night, we made it to The Inn at Spanish Bay early to catch their iconic sunset bagpiper performance—a tradition that’s been happening every night since 1987, rain or shine.
The bagpiper begins at the first tee and makes their way along the course, ending near the cozy fire pits by the second green. It’s such a magical moment—watching the sun dip below the horizon with the sound of bagpipes in the air.
Pro tip: Get to the fire pits early to grab a table and enjoy dinner on the patio while you take it all in. It’s an unforgettable way to end the day.
