Looking for a family activity? Something fun to do on Mother’s Day? How about a day mixed with cake, buttercream frosting, a little competition, and a LOT of laughs?
Last weekend, we created our own family version of the “Nailed It” TV show on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it, it’s an amateur baking competition in which the contestants are, let’s say…less than skilled, lol. We love watching the participants attempt to recreate exceedingly difficult baked goods and always get a good laugh at the final products. Not surprisingly, we found that it’s been much easier sitting on the couch and critiquing the bakers rather than attempting to bake them ourselves! Thus, after 4 hours of baking and decorating on a rainy Saturday, we were left with a much greater appreciation for professional bakers. The kids had a blast, we learned that buttercream frosting is much easier to make than anticipated, and we all had some great family fun together; it was truly the perfect morning activity.

As Mother’s Day is fast approaching, I know that some might feel that it’s a silly holiday because we as moms (and those that take on the roll of mom), should be acknowledged all of the time. However if we’re being honest, we don’t acknowledge the moms in our lives as often as we should. Life gets busy and without realizing it, we often take for granted those that do so much for us. With that, I encourage you to send a card or gift saying thank you to a special mom in your life this Mother’s Day; a small token to recognize all that they do and all that they are! Tell your mom you love her, tell your daughter you’re proud of the mom that she’s become, and tell your mom friends that they’re amazing.
