Decorating your home can be overwhelming. Not knowing where to start, what items to select, determining your style; it all can seem daunting.
When decorating a space, I start with a color. Pick a color that makes you smile, brings calmness, and overall, just makes you happy. Once you have your color, you can determine your design. Try to pick a unifying style, i.e. modern, industrial, traditional, shabby chic, or farmhouse; look at pieces of each and see what you gravitate towards.
Then, start with the floors and work your way up. A rug can set the tone for the room and will tie in your design and color. This will also provide the foundation of the room. A rug is an easy way to update a space and provide a big impact. Recently, I added a rug to our office. It changed the room drastically and provided both warmth and color. Here are some rugs that I’ve recently come across that can drastically update a space…
Pink Area Rug | Black/Ivory Rug | Turquoise Rug
Grey Abstract Rug | Blue Area Rug (my office)
After you’ve selected your flooring, work on the furniture complimenting your design. Then comes the fun part, filling in the space with decor. Recently, I wanted to update a couple of areas in our home. My mother taught me to always start with larger pieces. If the decor is too small, it will get lost in the space. So, if you find yourself at the store and can’t decide on a piece, pick the larger one. Here are some ways that I recently updated my home…
Olive Branches | Wooden Candle | Vintage Books | Picture Frames
Here’s some additional pieces that you can grab to update your home…
Le Creuset Sugar/Cream Set | Bistro Wood Barstools | Botanical Prints | Kitchen Runner | Le Creuset Tea Kettle | Light Pendant
Multi-color Rug | Turner Sofa & Chair | TV Buffet
I hope you’ve found this helpful and can add some items to your home. It’s always nice to refresh a space, especially before the holidays with all the family coming to visit.
XOXO,
