DIY Christmas Trees

Can you believe the holidays are right around the corner? In fact, Christmas is just 46 days away!  I’m trying to not move right past Thanksgiving; however, it seems like every other Instagram and Facebook post is someone putting up their Christmas tree!  So, I’m doing my best to hold back, enjoy the fall decor, and prepare for the festive decorations.  With all of the holiday decor on sale right now, you’re sure to find the perfect items for your home.

When decorating my home, I like to select a theme.  I begin with the color scheme and go from there.  This year, I’ve decided to go a little non-traditional and do more green and brown tones…like a Christmas tree.  Don’t get me wrong, I love red, gold, and the traditional colors, but I wanted to step out of my norm.  I’m using these next few weeks scanning the stores and grabbing everything that I need.  I’ll be sure to share with you the final outcome in the next few weeks.  In the meantime, I wanted to share with you an idea that I came across on Pinterest and always wanted to try…farmhouse paper trees!  They create the perfect mix of holiday cheer and farmhouse style.  Plus, they’re extremely easy to make!

What you’ll need…

Drill with drill bit

Scrapbook paper (I selected a mix of designs)

Wood Glue

Birch Tags

Slender Wooden Dowels (I used 3/16″)

Hole Puncher

White Distressed Scrapbook Paper   |   3/16″ Wooden Dowel   |   Birch Tags

Scotch Craft Glue  |   Hole Puncher

Instructions…

Drill your holes into the birch tags – be sure to use a drill bit that is large enough for your wooden dowel

Determine height for each tree – I wanted a variation so I made each dowel random heights

Glue the dowels into the hole of the birch tags – set aside to dry

Take your scrapbook paper and measure a variety of different size trees – mine range from 3 – 4 inches wide at the base and different heights based on the dowel size

Cut your scrapbook paper, then fold approximately an inch starting at the bottom to the top alternating sides

Hole punch the center of the paper

Insert the paper through the hole punch onto your dowel

Unfold, pulling the top of the tree to the top of the dowel

Glue the top of the tree to the top of the dowel

Repeat for all trees

Such an easy and inexpensive way to decorate your home! The entire project was under $20!  I’m definitely going to intermix these with some faux pine trees throughout the house.
