Things that add a touch of beauty!

I’m so thankful when I find things that add a touch of beauty.  Whether it’s for ourselves or our surroundings, it brings contentment and peace.

Moving into our new home, I knew that I wanted to do something to spruce-up our backyard.  While we loved the house, our backyard was a bit lacking in visual-appeal.  It was essentially a blank canvas with grass and a fence…so onto Pinterest I went in search of ideas.   I was so excited when I came across this DIY garden trellis; it had the right amount of chicness, but was simple and easy to put together.  I followed the steps and am very happy with how it’s coming along.

What you need:

Galvanized Wire

Eye Hooks

Wire Scissors

Drill and Small Drill Bit

Pliers

Vines – Two per fence

Step 1 –  Installing the Trellis:

For a standard fence, drill three holes on each side of the fence; the bottom, middle and top.  Take the eye hooks and screw them into each hole.  After the eye hooks are securely in place, thread the galvanized wire starting at the bottom all the way to the top, creating a criss-crossed look.  After it is threaded, secure the bottom to the eye hook.  Then use the pliers to pull the wire as tight as you can to the top.  Once the wire is pulled as tight as possible, cut the wire and wrap it to the top to keep it in place.  TA-DA!  You have successfully built your trellis!

Step 2 – Planting your Vines:

Depending on your climate, a traditional vine might not work due to heat and/or sun exposure.  Be sure to consult your nursery to find the best plant for your yard.  Being in Houston, it’s extremely hot and our fence is in the sun all day.  I chose the Star Jasmine Vine, as it is great for our climate and smells gorgeous!  Plant two vines off-center at the base of the fence.  Then, carefully direct and wrap the vines around the wire guiding them up the trellis.  Be sure to water them and continue to guide the vines as they grow up the trellis.  In no time, you’ll have a gorgeous fence!

My next Pinterest find, I completed a while back but I wanted to share it with you here on Rosy as can be.  I’m loving how it looks in the new house too!  I needed artwork near our bar area; however, I didn’t want the traditional bar look.  After doing some searching online, I came across these beautiful illustrations of the botanicals behind our favorite spirits.  I found drawings of the botanicals and printed them on a texturized card stock.  I then framed them in a rustic frame purchased at Michaels.  In our new home, I added a chalkboard between the frames to write down our favorite DOD (Drink of the Day).   I’m loving how it turned out!
