We are t-minus 4 days from moving out of our NC house, moving into a hotel for a week (while Vince finishes up his last rotation at UNC), and 10 days away from driving to Texas! We decided to make it a road trip and drive with our 3 kiddos (all 18 hours in a 2-3 day span); I’m sure my vision for this fun adventure will go very different than I imagine, lol. Either way, we are extremely excited to move into our new home and kick off this exciting next chapter in our lives.
The new house is about 800 square feet larger than our current home so of course, I “need” a lot of new things. Almost every room needs something…a new rug, an accent chair, lighting…the list goes on and on. Trying to prioritize my needs versus wants has been challenging, as of course I want to do it all. Luckily, through lots of searching, I’ve found many gorgeous pieces that won’t break the bank.
Here are some tips I’ve found that can easily refresh your space…
- Replacing a rug with a new one can create a dramatic change. Be sure to measure the room before buying; it’s best to err on the larger side, as you don’t want the rug to look too small.
- If a new couch isn’t in your budget, then update an accent chair. You can add so much personality to a room through a chair…and get an extra seat.
- Coffee tables and ottomans provide significant function, however they can be attractive as well. Find one that fits your family best. If you like to put your feet up, then it’s best to go with an ottoman. Simply add a tray for your beverages and you’re set.
- Adding more light to a room is never a bad thing. Be sure to go larger in height, as this will give it more presence and visual appeal.
- Updating old barstools can instantly refresh your kitchen. Be sure to measure the counter height, in addition to considering the style of decor and functionality. I personally like wood and metal for the kids, as they don’t stain and are easy to wipe down.
On a limited budget? Not a problem! I’ve found some gorgeous pieces that are all under $300!
