Grandma’s Fudge!

Today I wanted to share a recipe that’s very dear to my heart, my grandma’s fudge!

Grandma was a very talented woman.  She could paint, sew and basically do anything craft related; a true artist.  She enjoyed baking and at christmas time, you always received some sort of craft she made along with a tin of her famous fudge.   I truly miss her and I know she would be overjoyed with me sharing this with you.  I can almost hear her laughing and asking me if she’s going to be “famous” now that she’s on a website, lol.

We were fortunate during her last month, to have a girls weekend with her daughters and nieces.  We all caught up with each other,  reminisced, laughed and grandma shared her fudge recipe.  Her instruction and commentary were both helpful and hilarious.  It’s a special memory and I’m so happy I get to share it with you.

Grandma’s Secret Fudge

Ingredients

2 Oz. unsweetened baker’s chocolate squares

2/3 cup whole milk

2 cups sugar

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup of cold water

Nuts (optional)

Wax paper

Instructions

Melt unsweetened baker’s chocolate squares on low temperature

Grandma’s comments…”don’t touch and do not BURN!”

Pour whole milk into melted chocolate – stir for 2-3 minutes

Grandma’s comments…”should look like chocolate pudding”

Pour sugar into milk and melted chocolate – stir until mixed

Grandma’s comments…”once mixed, STOP stirring”

Bring to a boil (approximately 15 minutes)

Layout pieces of wax paper

Drip some of the chocolate pieces into a cup of cold water

Grandma’s comments…”move around with finger to form a ball, if a ball doesn’t form then keep boiling”

Turn off heat, add butter and vanilla extract into chocolate mix

Stir steady and fast (add nuts if desired)

Grandma’s comments…”keep stirring until creamy and thick…put some elbow into it!”

Spoon onto wax paper and let cool

I hope you’re able to try this delicious treat!  I know our family loves it!
