Twelve years ago today, I married my best friend! We have a pretty funny story in how we met and it goes all the way back to June 2003. After I graduated UCR, my goal was to live in San Diego; so I took the first job that paid the bills…I was recruited to be a store manager at Abercrombie & Fitch in Fashion Valley. It wasn’t the exact job I was looking for, but I was willing to give it a go so that I could live in SD.
On my first day, I met everyone that worked there, including this very handsome guy named Vince. Now back in 2003, I was 21 (exposing my age, lol), however this very handsome, fun, and charismatic guy was only 18! I was so concerned about our ages that I kept our relationship in the friend zone, despite his persistence in trying to take me out on a date.
Over the next year, we became great friends. I ended up leaving A&F for another job; however, Vince and I stayed in touch. Then in June 2004, I serendipitously ran into him at the mall and we decided to catch up over coffee. Sitting at Starbucks, we were both describing our dating lives and what we wanted in a partner; it seemed as if we were describing each other. From that moment on, we were inseparable! We dated just under a year before he proposed and we were subsequently engaged for about 9 months. Then on July 16, 2006 we said, “I do,” and it has been the absolute best decision of my life!
As I said in my vows back then, he is and will always be my corresponding puzzle piece. We balance each other, live life to the fullest, and most importantly, support each other in everything that we do. I’m so thankful that God has brought him into my life so that we can build this life together with three amazing children and a home full of love. I can’t imagine how amazing the next 12 years+ are going to be!
