Creating Your Retreat

Your bedroom is your retreat; a place where you can allow all of the stresses of your day to float away.  So, it should be a reflection of you. With pieces that are calming and colors that are relaxing, your retreat should bring you joy.

We re-decorated our master bedroom just over a year ago and I still love it! We started with the headboard (from Wayfair) as a statement piece. From there, we found a great deal on mirrored nightstands and wall mirrors (from HomeGoods), a gorgeous duvet cover (from Pottery Barn), and a fun art piece above the headboard (from World Market).  Simple changes don’t have to be expensive and can make a big impact.

Here are some easy decorating tips you can try…

To boost drama, try a tufted or nail button headboard.

Updating your nightstands, can provide an instant refreshed look.

Toss a faux fur throw across your bed and decorative pillows for added texture.

Replacing your lamps can provide more light and decor; always go larger, as small lamps won’t give enough light or drama to the room.

Hang mirrors behind lamps to add more light and give the wall more presence.

Add a bench at the bottom of the bed for function and balance.

Keep decorating items in odd numbers. For example, a lamp and 2 pictures on the nightstand or 5 pillows on the bed. Items tend to look better in odd numbers.

Lastly, select colors that calm you. This is your retreat!
